Minding My Business

With the exception of one impromptu social media post in December showing a glimpse at my office artwork, you may have noticed I stopped posting on our social media feeds after the week of Thanksgiving. It’s not uncommon for me to take breaks from regular posting, and our longtime followers may notice that historically, we tend to go quiet a couple times a year for weeks or even a few months at a time.

Typically in December, as our clients take some time away from their offices, and our project requests slow down just a bit, we take some time to reflect, plan, and get ready for the new year. We spend so much time making data-driven decisions for our clients, yet we seldom spend much time analyzing our own data and thinking critically about our internal processes. But last month, I did just that, and let me just say… it was eye-opening! The moment I ran the reports, it became crystal clear that spending my precious time (usually after-hours) planning, organizing, and creating content for our blog and social media feed is simply not the best use of my time.

Because I love data so much, I’m happy to share this with you:

Over the past 3 years:

  • We have worked on countless projects, serving over 90 clients!

  • 63% of our business came from our Top 4 clients

  • 76% of our business came from our Top 10 clients

In 2020:

  • We experienced record growth!

  • 69% of our business came from our Top 4 clients

  • 86% of our business came from our Top 10 clients

As nearly 90% of our business is coming from *existing* clients, we’ve shifted to become more service-focused and we’re placing far less emphasis on self-promotion to grow our business. If our clients’ businesses are growing (and they are!) then our business will grow along with them, and we’re confident that any new business will come organically, but we’ve raised our new client rates in 2021 and plan to be more choosy about what new projects and clients we take on.

So while you’ll see us posting and showcasing our work less often here, we wanted you to know that it is intentional, and we promise to still make time to share industry tips, trends, and expertise that we feel will best be of service to our clients, and our followers (aka “future clients”).

We hope 2021 is off to a great start for everyone, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can be of service to you and your business. I’ll just be here working, minding my business.
